Gatch Electrical is a commercial and industrial electrical contractor established in 1998 and based in Charleston, South Carolina and licensed to work in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. We are dedicated to providing quality electrical services to a variety of industries and sectors including government, industrial, commercial, water and wastewater treatment, healthcare, and education. We have the experience and ability to handle projects big and small, and our commitment to customer satisfaction is evident through our many repeat customers.

Jimmy’s Story

What led me to open Gatch Electrical? I definitely had the mindset to deliver quality work, while meeting or exceeding the contract documents. But I didn’t start with much. I had no tools or equipment - just a leased pickup truck, a bag phone, and a rented 12x20 office space.

I was born and raised in Charleston. After graduation from high school, I worked part-time at a manufacturing plant, where my father was the electrical engineer overseeing maintenance and facility improvements for their local plant as well as several other out-of-state plants.

After graduating from high school, I enrolled at Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Technical Education Center, completing courses in Electronics Mechanics, and a two-year Electrical Engineering major. While attending school I worked nights and most weekends at the plant assisting electricians.

Upon my graduation in 1969, my dad contacted the manager of a well-established and reputable local electrical contracting firm, where he had been employed years prior, to request an interview meeting for me. I was hired as an estimator trainee that day, Monday, June 16, 1969.

During my 12 years with this firm, I was exposed to many highly technical projects in sensitive military areas and industrial facilities. I quickly observed the unwavering commitment of my employer to quality work and customer service, which resulted in substantial repeat business opportunities. The majority of the work I was involved with consisted of Industrial Facilities, Charleston-area military bases, including the Air Force base, Polaris Missile Base, Weapons Station, and Charleston Naval shipyard (now known as Joint Base Charleston).

I was employed with two other well-respected electrical contracting firms before opening Gatch Electrical in June 1998. With a team of dedicated employees focused on safety, quality, integrity, proactive communication, and total customer satisfaction, we have enjoyed controlled growth and significant repeat business. Most things are always changing. Our core values and business ethics never will.
